First time: How to Register on IncomeTaxIndiaEfiling Website

To get registered, click on 'Register Yourself' button on top right side of the website.

  • Select User Type - Individual or HUF or others? For most users it is 'Individual'.
  • Enter Personal Details - PAN number, Name and Date of Birth. Your userID for future logins will be your PAN number.
  • Set Password and Secret Question - Ensure that your password is strong by using combination of characters. Secret Question will be asked to you in case you forget your password in future.
  • Enter Contact Details - Mobile no, Email-id & Address. Enter your personal email-id and phone because all communications by IT department will be sent on it.
  • Activation Link - You will receive an activation link in your email. Click on it.

How to view and save your Tax Credit Statement (26AS) on IncomeTaxIndiaEfiling website

After login, you can view Form 26as online on the IncomeTaxIndiaEFilling Website by clicking on 'View Form 26AS (Tax Credit)'. After clicking, you will be redirected to the TDS-CPC website to view Form 26AS (Tax Credit Statement). There all you have to do is select the assessment year after which you will get to see the details about your salary, interest earned on FDs in various banks and tax deducted at source for these incomes.

Forgot your Income Tax Website Password: How to reset or recover

If you lost/forgot your password of your IncomeTaxIndiaEfiling account, then you can reset it using the link 'Forgot Password?' just besides the 'Login' button. There are many options/ways to reset your password.

  • Option 1 - Answer Secret Question Enter Date of Birth, select your 'Secret Question' (which you had entered while registering), enter secret answer and submit. Enter your new password.

  • Option 2 - Upload DSC DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) is a digital signature to authenticate e-documents. Usually we people (individuals) dont have a DSC as there is a cost involved to get it.

  • Option 3 - Using OTP(PINs) Validate your registered Email ID and Mobile Number. Enter the PINs sent to the above Email ID and Mobile Number and submit. Enter your new password.

  • Option 4 - Using Aadhaar OTP For this your Aadhaar must be linked to your PAN. Validate your Aaadhaar number and click on 'Generate Aadhaar OTP'. Enter Aadhaar OTP which you will receive on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar. Submit and enter your new password.

  • Option 5 - Login through NetBanking You can change Income Tax Website password through netbanking too. Click "e-Filing Login Through NetBanking", login to your bank and click 'Login to the IT e-Filing
    account'. E-Filing User screen will be displayed. You can change the password under Profile settings.
